Employee journey personal accident insurance provides cover to employees for personal injury that can occur both during and outside of work hours.

For many Australian States/Territories until recently, an injury sustained by employees travelling to and from their workplace was covered by the various States/Territories through worker’s compensation schemes. However, the recent harmonisation of the worker’s compensation schemes has seen changes to the coverage provided under these State/Territory legislated insurance schemes.

Where some States have previously had the coverage included, they now have significantly reduced and removed the cover for employees travelling to and from their workplace.

The States and Territories that have been affected by these changes are New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia and Northern Territory. It is expected that Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory will follow in the near future.
