In a recent article from Cooper Grace Ward, the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal has issued a 71 page draft Order for contractor drivers in regards to their minimum pay. If this Draft Order is approved as is, there would be substantial implications for any party that is involved with contractor drivers directly or indirectly. The proposed minimum rates of payment on an hourly and kilometre basis in the Draft Order, will impact a previously unregulated sector of the transport industry.
This is something we should all keep an eye on. Regardless of the frequency of use of the contractor drivers, it is important to have suitable insurance cover in place, should the unexpected happen. At East West Insurance Brokers we have a specialised transport insurance team who would love to assist you with more information or a quote on protecting your transport business on insurable risks.
